A real estate investment trust (REIT) is a company that owns, operates or finances income-generating real estate across a range of industries. REITs operate in the industrial, mortgage, residential and healthcare sub industries, where they pool capital from several investors and pay out dividends from the fund’s underlying real estate holdings. A REIT’s principal business activities include the acquisition, development, ownership, and operation of various types of property. The securities listed in this page are organized into two tables. The stock table includes relevant common stocks, ADRs and preferred shares, and the funds table includes relevant exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and institutional share class mutual funds.
