As far as U.S. markets go, 2016 started out with a thud. Equity prices have dropped as the first week of January brings almost unrelenting bad news from China’s markets and unsuccessful attempts from its government to reverse or at least contain plunging equity prices. In response, the rest of the world’s markets have sold off on worries that things will only get worse. And they probably will.
