Do You Know What Your Advisor Is?

The scene was New Year’s Eve dinner with friends. One of the two other couples with whom my wife and I share what has become an annual tradition consists of an engineer and a retired teacher. Somehow, the topic turned to investing and money, and the engineer-teacher couple volunteered that they know nothing about investing, find it all too confusing, and have used the services of a financial planner to help them since they lost money investing in tech stocks many years ago.
