America’s energy industry is at a major crossroads.
On one hand, the United States is blessed with a new-found abundance of natural gas and shale oil resources. And thanks to fracking and a supportive administration/government, we have the ability to unearth a virtual ocean of these resources. On the other, you have a world that continues to grapple with climate change and the shift towards renewable and low carbon sources.
While the two sides to America’s energy sector aren’t mutually exclusive, they are seen as opposites. And in that, each side has a lot at stake in the current fight.
For investors, the battle between rising renewable demand and the ability to finally become energy independent has plenty of portfolio implications as well. So, will America’s energy sector be truly unleashed or will it be tamed?
