Quick, name three tech stocks! I’d be willing to bet that Amazon (AMZN), Google (GOOG) and Apple (AAPL ) were the three names. Or maybe Microsoft (MSFT ). Either way, the point is they all have something in common: They are all American firms.
Hometown bias exists in a variety of sectors and it taints our behavior when it comes to investing. But it seems to strongest when it comes to tech. For some reason Silicon Valley has become the end all, be all for the technology sector. But truth be told, there’s plenty of innovation outside the United States’ borders when it comes to tech.
With that in mind, investors may want to forget the FANGs and instead break out their passports. The place to find great tech stocks is in the international space.
