The Federal Reserve is a complex beast to say the least. Composed of several layers, the Fed has a multitude of mandates and its hands in a variety of regulatory and monetary policy functions, from overseeing bank regulation to maintaining the popular FRED database of economic data. But perhaps it’s best-known for its control of key benchmark interest rates.
But you wouldn’t know it from talking to the average American.
According to a recent WalletHub survey, the average Joe is pretty clueless about the Fed. And that’s a problem considering the current environment we’re in. Americans misunderstanding of the role of the Fed might very well hit them in their wallets.
