Despite the recent gains in the market, Americans are still facing a decent-sized retirement crisis.
Thanks to rising longevity rates and lower overall savings rates, most Americans aren’t really ready to head into their golden years. We simply don’t have enough saved. That fact is exacerbated when you start to include intangibles such as healthcare spending and taxes.
And in that, a variety of solutions have been posed by policymakers, financial planners and asset managers.
One of the most common ones continues to be to work longer rather retire. And that is an easy answer. However, simply working longer may not be the panacea we’ve been looking for.
