If there is one asset class that fits into the ‘love it or hate it’ category, it has to be gold.
Plenty of ink has been spilled on both sides. And it seems that investors are either complete gold bugs and can’t get enough of the stuff into their portfolios or they are like Warren Buffett and think that the precious metal is a complete waste of time. There really isn’t any middle ground. You love it or you hate it.
But perhaps we should meet in the middle.
Gold – and, to some extent, its poor man’s twin, silver – in small doses does make an interesting diversifier. For investors with multi-asset portfolios, an allocation to the precious metal could pay some serious benefits over the long haul. And with the invention of ETFs, adding gold has never been simpler.
