There are plenty of sectors over the last year that look like roller coasters. From tech to real estate, the market’s big swings have caused some big swoons across the board. Perhaps none have been bigger than those in the natural resource world. After years of suffering, commodity producers started out on good footing in 2018 as the global economy kicked into high gear.
Lately, though, gold has glittered, the oil hasn’t pumped and corn isn’t popping. Natural resource-focused equities have fallen flat in recent weeks.
However, better times could be ahead. There’s plenty of dislocation between supplies and actual demand. Moreover, today’s natural resource-focused firms aren’t the debt-laden firms of a decade ago. For investors – especially dividend-growth seekers – the sector offers an interesting value for the new year.
